I do not have a physical copy of the game however do plan on getting one together with the expansion. UI design is not as intuitive as one may be accustomed too but if you take your time to go through it, it suites the game well. Tutorial provides good basic introduction to the game but to gain deeper understanding referring to the manual is necessary. Terra Mystica just as any other board games, the more you play the more you understand it.. Largely, I'd call this a great representation of the original cardboard version of the game.Personally, I think the overall UI design is great. It's easy to get an overview of the most relevant information, and everything else is handy either by pullout or easily accessible button.The art, the animation and the general ordering of UI elements is great.The game's problem, however, should be found in the implementation. From the opening dialog (that screams "Unity developer without much experience") to several UI bugs (in particular related to resetting your actions before committing) are very glitchy. As long as you don't get too frisky with your inputs, the game reacts fine, though.Some people might prefer Juho's version, but I much prefer this one in all but community - and the latter might still come around.. I looked forward to Terra Mystica, not just for myself but for others who could learn the game and enjoy it that didn't have a nearby audience that would be attuned to these types of games.The digital version, instead of facilitating adoption, inhibits it with a grossly haphazard interface that adds even *more* confusing learning points than the game itself.Terra Mystica is a simple game with lots of iconic considerations. The digital version obscures the simplicity beyond esoteric interface decisions, a tutorial that leaves more questions than answers, and a lackluster presentation rife with inconsistencies and dead ends. As a rendition of Terra Mystica, it's sufficient in the way a service elevator will get you to another floor, and no more. Absolutely could have been a highmark achievement and an opportunity to make Terra Mystica available to a large audience, but fails.. I was excited for the release of this game for computer, after playing in real life and via the web. Unfortunately this implementation is a serious let-down. The interface is clunky and poorly designed, with unnecessary forced waits (even on the fastest interface setting) and important information hidden on collapsed panels. Also it seems like the community around this version has died down, as I haven't been able to get into a single ranked game in the hours I've been trying. That leaves me playing against the AIs, which aren't very good.. I do not own the board game and have never played the physical game which is much more expensive than this game. By looking at videos of game play with the physical game, I was able to piece together the interface on this e-version, and look forward to playing it online. But without the physcial game videos as a reference I would have been lost. This computer interface does not capture the elegance of the game itself.But after this hurdle, I think this e-version is very servicable. You can play against the AI or hot-seat which is great, or you can search for players online which is limited. I'm happy this version exists even though it could have been executed better. Without it, I would not have become aware of the game.The game itself is a little heavy and stiff -- more like a puzzle and definitely not something to pick up to unwind, at least for me. However, I look foward to learning how the different stats and powers of each race interact and affect strategy. Lots of replayability -- the kind of game you think about after you close it for the night.As I began this review, "No" was checked, but at the last minute changed to a "yes.". I purchased this game with the intent to learn how to play the board game. After going through the tutorial, I'm no closer to knowing how the game works than before I purchased it from Steam. The tutorial doesn't make sense, objectives are not laid out, and it's unclear why you're doing what the tutorial is trying to explain. The tutorial has glaring spelling and grammar errors. I figured I'd be better off returning the game for the money spent rather than potentially fighting through the AI.
